A typical Crime/Trauma scene can be rife with dangerous contaminants. When blood and bodily fluids are dispersed viral diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, AIDS, Tuberculosis can be present and pose great danger to those who come in contact with them. Federal and State agencies have created regulations regarding the precautions required when handling blood or bodily fluids. The Occupational Safety And Health Association has created regulation 29CFR1910.1030: Regarding Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. This regulation requires any employee who may come into contact with bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials to be properly trained and to follow the guidelines set forth by OSHA. No employee may be placed in a position that exposes them to Bloodborne Pathogens or Other Potentially Infectious Materials without first: Receiving Bloodborne Pathogen Training. Having a written Exposure Control Plan. Having been provided Personal Protective Equipment. Having been offered a Hepatitis B vaccination and Exposure Follow-Up. Provision of a method to properly remove and store Biohazardous Waste.
